The Black Dog river guides are some of the best and most qualified river guides in Jackson Hole. Jeff Rossberg – Owner & Guide

Black Dog river guides, Jeff Rossberg

Owner and Black Dog River Guide, Jeff Rossberg.

Jeff’s love affair with the Snake River started at age ten with his first float, and twenty eight years later and over 20,000 miles logged on the Snake, it is still going strong. After 13 years guiding for a local commercial company, Jeff decided to start his own rafting company- Black Dog Raft Company. He wanted to share his love of the river and of the outdoors with the great folks that visit and live in this area. Jeff wants each individual to have the most personable experience while they float down the scenic Snake River.

Carsten Stuhr

Carsten Stuhr – River Guide

Carsten has been a river guide for the past 13 years, with nine of those years in Jackson Hole. He’s originally from Alabama, he first came out to Jackson for a church mission trip when he was only 17 and that’s when his love for the West stuck. He guided in Utah and California then moved to Jackson in the summer of 2005 to get into river kayaking. He’s floated the Snake River so many times as a former Dave Hansen Whitewater boatman. Now he’s a river guide with Black Dog and is a kayak instructor at Rendezvous River Sports. But truly one of the most rewarding part of his job is when he takes part working with students as a part of Jackson Hole Kayak Club. When Carsten isn’t floating the Snake, he’s in West Virginia guiding the Gauley River.

Owen Popinchalk – River Guide

Owen was born and raised in Jackson Hole. He studied architecture at the University of Colorado and also graphic design at Fort Lewis College in Durango. Owen has been on the water kayaking since he was thirteen and started guiding 10 years ago at the age of 18 with Dave Hansen Whitewater. He’s not only a river guru but a true mountaineer in the Tetons with a culmination of winter ascents of the Grand Teton and Cathedral Traverses. He’s been a skier since he was 2 years old and he’s skied all over the Greater Yellowstone – thankful to be able to enjoy playing in the water all year round, whether it’s skiing on the powder or floating the Snake. He currently lives in Kelly, Wyoming with his girlfriend and their Australian Shepard, Yuki – they love their home and their garden!

Mandie Lanier – Manager

Mandie grew up on St. Simons Island, Georgia – known by the locals as “The Island” with expansive beaches, salty marshes and moss-draped oaks. When she wasn’t basking in the local beaches, she was in Jackson Hole for the summer. She graduated from University of Georgia and moved back to The Island as a kayak guide at Southeast Adventure Outfitters. Two years later she moved to Jackson Hole working with special needs children for 4 years. Mandie loves the outdoors and spends her summers and winters: hiking, rafting, ocean kayaking, cross country skiing, traveling and of course hanging with her dog, Ellie.
